The Construction Dust Partnership (CDP) was created by HSE due to an investigation showing that many construction workers were at a risk of developing diseases such as lung cancer, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma. The partnership raises awareness and promotes the prevention of the health risks caused by construction dust.

CHAS move to online forms

CHAS are developing electronic applications forms to make it easier for clients to prepare and upload information.  Future applications will also be easier as previously submitted information will be available to edit instead of having to be completely re-submitted.

They are hoping to have completed designing the system by the end of July which they will then test with some clients, before going live on 1st September.

CHAS update

CHAS have issued a newsletter with details of all the changes that have taken place.  They have been formed into a company – now called CHAS 2013 Ltd and have a new email address @chas.co.uk.  Initial enquiries should now be sent to chas.administration@chas.co.uk and from 1st April 2014 their fees are increasing. The HSE have issued new guidance for maintaining portable electrical equipment. The guidance is for managers, electricians, technicians and users and gives sensible advice on maintaining portable electrical equipment to prevent danger. Read more

Student Work Experience

The HSE has issued revised guidance to employers considering offering work experience to students. The Department for Education has worked with Ofsted to publish guidance on how Ofsted will inspect Health and Safety and the Association of British Insurers is reassuring employers that they don’t have to take out special insurance policies to cover students on work experience, and that this will not in itself have an effect on annual premiums.
